Sustainable communities
Universities form part of society’s critical learning infrastructure and we have the potential to power positive ecological, social, and economic change.
Through inclusive and targeted engagement initiatives, we aim to educate and inspire a sustainable mindset and empower our staff, students and the wider community with the green skills and knowledge to play an active role in building a sustainable future.
As an anchor institution in the local region, our sphere of influence includes not only staff, students and partners, but also stakeholders in the wider community in Hertfordshire - and beyond.
Our engagement programme offers opportunities to learn, share, celebrate, and participate in sustainability activities on campus and beyond, galvanizing our community around a common purpose.
From litter picks to voluntary conservation work, quizzes to audits, and workshops to fungi walks, there are plenty of engagement opportunities to participate in sustainability in our community. We work closely with our own Students’ Union and the University’s Widening Access and Participation and Inclusion teams to promote accessible, inclusive and relevant sustainability good practice across the University.
We also collaborate with local schools and partnerships in and around Hertfordshire, supporting initiatives including Youth COP, the KS3 STEM Climate Change Summit and the Outdoor Education Activity Day.
