Pregnancy and maternity

How does the University support current students and staff who are pregnant or returning from maternity leave?

Our aim is that all our policies, practices and services are inclusive.

We used the Equality Challenge Unit’s guidance on Student pregnancy and maternity: implications for higher education institutions to review our approaches.

We have well-established occupational policies and practices to support staff in pregnancy and in their return to work.

The University runs a purpose-built day nursery on the College Lane campus for the children of University students and staff aged between 3 months and 5 years. We have on-campus facilities for breast–feeding.

We keep our arrangements under review and include consideration of pregnancy and maternity in assessing the impact on equality of our policies, facilities and services.
