University of Hertfordshire representatives were delighted to visit Onslow St Audrey’s School, Hatfield, for A-level results day and share in many students’ delight in going to university.

In a new partnership with the school, Herts joined students to open their envelopes confirming their results and university places.

Most of the school’s students were happy with their places, including some who will go on to join Herts in September on a range of courses. This reflects the over 80 per cent of students from around the country who have got their first choice university place this year.

Leonardo Anguis, 18, A-level student said: “I got into the University of Hertfordshire to do Sound Engineering, Light Engineering and Performance. I was so nervous this morning, I was shaking!

“I have been so busy over the last two years, I’m really involved in sport but also in the music and shows put on by the school, so I have been doing a lot as well as my studies.

“I chose Herts because of the facilities, which I just found to be above all the others and nowhere else really compared. I also liked it that the course is broad and will provide lots of different opportunities in both film and music. Meeting Simon Morgan, one of my new lecturers, was inspiring and I really feel so excited to start now after the summer.”

Elle Tyler, Joint Head of 6th Form at Onslow St Audrey’s School, said: “I’m so unbelievably proud of our students this morning. I have a daughter but I’m like another mum to many other sons and daughters here at Onslow St Audrey’s School.

“As we are a small sixth form, I know them all so well and have supported them throughout their A-level journey. It’s been really hard knowing the results and not being able to say anything until they opened that envelope! I can’t wait to see how they get on as they go off to university and onto other things, it’s been a pleasure.”

Professor Mairi Watson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hertfordshire, said:

“I am delighted that the majority of students got their first choice of university. Celebrations will now be happening for many, bringing with them a reflection and recognition of all of their hard work up to now.

“This is a wonderful time of opportunity, no matter what grades were achieved. For anyone who hasn’t got the results they expected, remember there are still many possible options and routes. It’s vital that students decide to do something they feel passionate about and can set them on the path to working life.

“At Herts, we are looking forward to our new intake for September 2024 and to welcoming our first-year students. Our world-leading facilities include real-world simulation suites, including a full-scale ambulance, pharmacy and operating theatre, live sound and lighting stage in the School of Creative Arts; full-scale, replica law court in our Hertfordshire Law School and one of the UK's largest student telescopes at our Bayfordbury teaching observatory.

“Also in September, we will see the opening of Spectra; our new state-of-the-art School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science and the building of our newly-announced groundbreaking film studio – Propeller Stage One.”
