University of Hertfordshire celebrates strong results in latest league tables

The University of Hertfordshire is celebrating after achieving strong rises in new, national league table rankings published by The Guardian and The Daily Mail.

In the Guardian University Guide 2025, published on Saturday (7 September), the University rose to 75th place – an increase of 12 places from last year. The Daily Mail University Guide 2025, published on 5 September, then placed Herts at number 54 overall – an increase of eight places from 2024.

Both rankings base their assessments on a multitude of factors, including teaching excellence, quality of feedback, student satisfaction and the number of students in highly skilled employment 15 months after graduation.

In the Guardian tables, which assessed 122 UK universities in total, Herts performed particularly well for satisfaction of teaching (up 35 places) and satisfaction of feedback and assessment (up 12 places), plus placed 16th in the country for value added. 

At a subject level, the University’s Mental Health Nursing was ranked 2nd best in the UK, its Child Nursing 3rd, and both its Social Work and Nursing 4th. Herts also saw significant rises in a number of subjects, including Business and Management (up nine places), Event Management (up 10 places), Economics (up eight places), Education (up 15 places), English (up 14 places), Pharmacy (up 10 places), Geography (up 11 places), Criminology (up eight places) Health Professions (up nine places).

The University also performed strongly in many of the Mail University Guide’s ranking areas, which assessed 129 universities in total. This included its teaching excellence (84.5%), its first-year completion rate (90.7%) and its graduate outcomes – with 74.3% of graduates in highly-skilled jobs and coming 38th overall for graduate salary earnt (£28K).

Top subject rankings included being placed 1st out 52 for Teaching, 2nd out of 26 for Dietetics, 3rd out of 46 for Counselling, Psychotherapy and occupational Therapy and 4th out of 18 for Pharmacology.

These latest results come soon after the University of Hertfordshire was ranked first for overall student positivity in the East of England in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2024 and top five overall in the in the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) 2024, both for the second year running.
