The University of Hertfordshire has received a “Good” rating from Ofsted for its apprenticeship programmes.

Quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management at Herts were all rated Good, following an inspection last month.

The University, which offers apprenticeships in levels five to seven in a variety of fields, was commended for its “expertly given” practical and pastoral support in partnership with employers, which the report said is highly valued by apprentices.

According to Ofsted, apprentices at Herts are highly positive towards their education and job roles. They develop “character and confidence” as a result of their studies, and become “more reflective and resilient to challenges, change and setbacks” through their time at the University.

The report further praised Herts for its links with businesses and partners to meet regional skills needs, as well as its variety of teaching and learning opportunities, including practical experiences.

Professor Quintin McKellar, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hertfordshire, said:

“I’d like to thank everyone for all their hard work over the past eighteen months to implement the changes that have resulted in this year’s positive inspection rating.

“We are passionate about offering alternative routes to higher education and we are proud of the education and training we provide for our apprentices. We have 15 higher and degree apprenticeship programmes available, and our team of experts work with employers across a wide variety of sectors to create apprenticeship programmes that truly drive value to both the employer and the learner.

“We will continue to learn and improve our provision, which serves an important role in widening participation in higher education and filling gaps in the local workforce by upskilling staff.”

Currently, the University provides apprenticeship courses in healthcare, digital, engineering and leadership and management. You can find out more information about degree apprenticeships offered at Herts via the University website.
