The University of Hertfordshire is proud of its strong international community, which has been reflected by the latest higher education statistics.

New figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) showed that 17,095 non-UK students enrolled at Herts in the academic year 2022/23, making it the fourth most popular university in the country for international students.

The latest survey comes just after Herts’ international recruitment strategy was directly commended by His Majesty The King during a distinguished ceremony at Windsor Castle, following the University’s International Office’s prestigious win of a King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, the country’s highest business accolade.

Herts was also recently ranked first for overall student positivity in the East of England and fifth in the UK for overall postgraduate satisfaction, in the most recent National Student Survey and Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey, respectively.

Sayaz Miah, Director of International at the University of Hertfordshire, said:

“It’s fantastic to see our efforts pay off through HESA’s latest figures. The results reflect decades of meticulous work developing a global network of high-quality education agents, representatives and academic partners to ensure strong strategic partnerships, impactful research collaborations, once-in-a-lifetime global teaching and exchange opportunities for our staff and students and the flourishing, vibrant and diverse campus community that we have today

“The University’s ability to attract students from all around the world then reflects the high-quality, career-focused education we provide, and the innovative research and enterprise opportunities available here that equip students with the skills and experience they need for a fast-changing, globally connected world, as well as its fantastic student experience.

“Our students are part of truly diverse community and hugely benefit from learning and socialising with people from all different backgrounds. This diversity enriches the learning experience for students and staff alike.”

Jo Stuart, Pro Vice Chancellor for International and Marketing Communications at the University of Hertfordshire, said:

“International students not only ensure financial stability in the higher education sector, amid nation-wide pressures, but boost the local economy, drive innovation and development globally, and fill crucial UK skills gaps, particularly in STEM and healthcare.

“Also, particularly considering the current political context, we truly believe in the strength and power internationalism has on individuals, communities, businesses and society at large.

“From enriching cultural diversity to strengthening internal relations and boosting the national economy, people across the country and beyond benefit from the strong community of international students we have at Herts.”
