Our supporters
Our students receive support from many individual donors, including members of our alumni community who give regularly, current and former staff, and people in the local community with a particular academic or pastoral interest. We work with our donors to help them get the most out their experience supporting the University and show them how their donation has made a difference. Every individual donation, no matter how small, helps achieve our aims of unleashing new talent and enabling students to achieve their potential.
The University of Hertfordshire is also proud to receive support from a range of companies and charitable trusts and foundations. These organisations support a range of activity and areas benefiting our students and research community, including scholarships, research grants, capital infrastructure, career and enterprise opportunities and international opportunities. In addition, we are delighted to be a Santander Universities UK partner university.
The Judges and High Sheriff’s Fund
2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Judges and High Sheriff’s Fund, started by His Honour Michael Baker CBE KC DL and colleagues to support Herts law students. In that time, over 60 students have been supported by the scholarships and prizes, which have recently grown to incorporate a Community Award for students participating in pro bono work during their studies. Prize winners and scholars have gone on to forge successful careers in the law, and we have even seen a former prize winner set up her own law prize, in recognition of the difference that her Judges’ Prize made to her.
Santander Universities UK
The University of Hertfordshire has been a partner of Santander Universities UK since 2012 and their support has totalled over £1 million in that time. Santander Universities UK focuses on supporting students through Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship. Over the years, students have benefitted from an extensive range of opportunities including scholarships, Enterprise Fund grants, Study Abroad grants, Formula Student support and the long-running internship programme. The support brings clear benefits to the students and directly enhances their university experience and employment outcomes.
Our students have been given the opportunity to be involved in a range of initiatives through the partnership. The Santander Scholars programme has given selected students from traditionally under-represented backgrounds at university level significant financial and training support to enable them to succeed.
Jarvis Homes Ltd
Jarvis Homes Ltd fund the Jarvis Centenary Scholarship which offers an annual scholarship to an undergraduate and postgraduate student. It was first awarded in 2007 and to date, 21 students have been supported by the awards. In 2022 the award was re-focussed to foster a clearer connection with Jarvis origins, supporting an undergraduate scholarship for those studying Architecture or Civil Engineering, and a postgraduate scholarship supporting research related to house building.
As a long-standing local employer, we believe it is important to invest in our community and our future generations. Our legacy should be beyond bricks and mortar.
Mike Peters, CEO of Jarvis Homes
The Wolfson Foundation
The Wolfson Foundation generously provided transformative support for the Wolfson Centre for Biodetection and Instrumentation Research, situated within our new Spectra building.
The donation from Wolfson provided a new bespoke adaptable aerosol chamber, associated aerosol generation and monitoring equipment and downstream analysis instrumentation. Combined with other research funding grants, the support means that the WCBIR will continue to produce world-leading research on critically important topics relating to biodetection for many years to come.
