Your donations in action

Your donations make a lasting impact on our students, both during their studies and after they graduate. Financial pressures hinder many students wishing to enter higher education. We believe that every student should have the opportunity to unlock their full potential, and with your help we can help make this happen.

Scholarships, bursaries and prizes

Financial pressures hinder many students wishing to enter higher education. Donating to create a scholarship, bursary or prize is a fantastic way to create enduring impact. Time and time again, our scholars report that this kind of support gives benefits that reach far beyond the financial.

Our students can explain the impact of a scholarship, far better than we ever could.

The Financial Assistance Fund

The University Student Trust Fund (USTF) contributes to the University’s Financial Assistance Fund and for the academic year (2023-24) it had provided financial aid to over 300 students.

A recent Hertfordshire Students Union survey revealed 45% of students cannot afford rent comfortably each month, meaning many more students are having to work up to 20 hours a week on top of their studies. 13% said they had more than one job. Increases in the basic costs of living are particularly impacting those students who are dependent on a maintenance loan to live.

Your donation to the USTF really helps those students who are in most need to weather the impact of rising costs. Recipients tell us that the funds distributed via the Student Hardship Fund keep them studying, as they alleviate financial worries that can lead to them to withdraw from university. Gifts to this fund are powerful and meaningful, directly contributing to success.

Enterprise Fund

The University has been a University Enterprise Zone since 2019, and this whole-campus status as a business incubator was reinforced with the opening of the Enterprise Hub building in 2020.

Our campuses are open for early stage businesses and entrepreneurs to use as and when it suits their needs, alongside access to our academic experts, talented graduates, facilities and equipment. There is a designated modern and fully equipped co-working space for business incubator members to use flexibly, within the Enterprise Hub.

We also offer funded research and development opportunities, such as Knowledge Transfer Partnership, helping businesses solve strategic challenges and create new products.

Our highly-regarded workforce development opportunities such as degree apprenticeships, graduate placements and professional development courses empower businesses to grow a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.

An entrepreneurial vision runs through everything we do at Herts. We therefore offer advice sessions, events, entrepreneurial societies, enterprise competitions and funding opportunities to our students and graduates who are interested in starting their own business.
