Finding Herts
Antonio's youth go-karting experience inspired him to pursue a motorsport career, leading him to Herts. 'I considered studying at several other universities, but I knew Herts would help me reach my goals.
'The University's campuses and facilities are also fantastic. My tutors were passionate about their subjects and wanted to see us all succeed.'
Formula Student and going on placement
Antonio's time at Herts followed a similar path to other graduates now working in motorsport. He joined UH Racing, one of the UK's most successful Formula Student teams, which he says was one of his favourite experiences. 'I learnt a lot from my time with UH Racing and often reminisce about designing, building and testing the UH16 car with former classmates.'
Antonio spent a year in placement during his course with Xtrac Ltd, a supplier of high-performance transmissions, as a Trainee Design Engineer. 'I worked with TMG (Toyota's Formula One team) designing transmission parts for a GT2 car. This project spanned most of my placement year and included the initial design, sign-off testing, and track testing. A placement like this is a fantastic experience for any engineer!'
Antonio’s advice
Antonio is now the Chief Engineer for Alliance Racing, which is competing in partnership with the 2023 British Touring Car Championship winners NAPA Racing UK.
His advice is to, ‘Do something you enjoy and are passionate about. You'll find yourself making friends with people with similar passions throughout your career!'
