Exploring career paths and choosing a graduate scheme
Studying during the pandemic brought challenges, but Nazira always felt encouraged and motivated by the guidance of her academic mentors. Their support helped her stay focused and make the most of her university experience despite the unusual circumstances.
As Nazira approached the end of her studies, she faced an important decision about her first role after university. She considered taking a direct-entry paid job but ultimately chose to embark on the University of Hertfordshire’s graduate scheme. She recognised the value of the programme, allowing her to develop a diverse range of skills, gain exposure to different areas of marketing, and build a strong professional foundation. This decision proved to be the right one, as she has thrived in the dynamic and learning-focused environment of the graduate scheme.
As part of her role, Nazira worked with the Alumni and Development team. She has loved being part of projects that celebrate the achievements of past students and strengthen connections between graduates and the University. She played a key role in campaigns such as the Alumni Awards and contributed to some of the highest-performing posts for the social team. Looking back, she is amazed at what she has accomplished, from engaging with alumni to contributing to meaningful campaigns.

Advice to future graduates
Nazira encourages students to consider the long-term benefits when making career decisions. She advises, ‘It’s tempting to go straight into a job, but graduate schemes offer an incredible chance to learn, explore different roles, and build confidence in your abilities. The experience you gain is invaluable.’
She also stresses the importance of embracing new challenges and making the most of every opportunity. ‘The best part of a graduate scheme is the variety, you get to try different things, work on exciting projects, and find what you truly enjoy. It’s an amazing way to start your career with a strong foundation.’
Reflecting on her journey, Nazira’s final piece of advice is simple: ‘Enjoy the process, take every opportunity that comes your way, and trust in your own abilities. My graduate scheme has been an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!’
