A passion for Formula One
Stephanie is passionate about Formula One, and before applying to Herts, she knew she wanted to pursue a career in the motor industry. 'Herts is the only university that offered exactly what I wanted. An on-campus experience with a subject I love, a good student sports community, and the chance to be away from home!’
'The chance to join the University's Formula Student team also factored into my decision. I wanted to experience what it was like to be on a racing team and understand the challenges one can face.'
Whilst at Herts, Stephanie went on placement at Vauxhall as a Quality Engineer. She says, 'It was a great opportunity, and I got to experience what it was like working in industry. I learnt some valuable skills that I brought back to my final year at Herts.'
But Stephanie's favourite experience at University was the friends she made during her time here. 'I met many people on my course, in the societies I joined, and on the UH Racing team. I'm still close with many of them today.'
A rising star in engineering
Stephanie is a Senior Safety Calibration Engineer for Bosch UK, one of the UK’s largest automotive suppliers. ‘I first joined Bosch on a graduate programme in 2014 and I’ve worked in many roles with various technical responsibilities, but my ambition is to move into a management position in the future.'
In 2023, Stephanie was a finalist for Autocar's Great Women: Rising Stars award, which recognises the motoring industry’s best up-and-coming female talent, rewarding those who have the skills and expertise to rise to the top.
In 2024, Stephanie was one of 13 people selected from the UK to marshal at the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix. As a flagging and communications marshal, she talked regularly with race control during the event and alerted drivers of relevant information, such as the track status and potential incidents.
Her advice
Stephanie advises students and other graduates to use the time at Herts to 'explore what you like and are passionate about. I wouldn't have been exposed to many things I enjoy now without having the chance to study at Herts’.
