About the course
There is an increased need for professionally managed purchasing and supply chains mangement to ensure businesses are able to succeed and provide to their customers. The School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science have developed this unique programme to help you develop a wide range of skills for your chosen career ensuring success in whatever sector you decide to work in.
The Advanced Project award aims to develop key employment and professional development skills that you will need to seek employment. You will learn how to deliver successful projects and develop strategies for successful employment after graduation
The programme offers two award routes that you can choose to study:
- One-year full-time MSc Supply Chain and Logistics Management (September entry)
- 18-months full-time MSc Supply Chain and Logistics Management (January entry)
- Two-year full-time MSC Supply Chain and Logistics Management with Extended Professional Practice (September entry)
- Two-year full-time MSc Supply Chain and Logistics Management with Advanced Project (September entry)

You will develop skills and advancement of knowledge on the broad areas of business to enable you develop transferable skills in all areas. Areas include: operations management, operations research, procurement and supply chain management, financial control, manufacturing information systems, manufacturing strategy; legal aspects of supply chain; and human resources management.
You will focus on a combination of practical work and case studies, including analysis and synthesis, contribution to profitability, understanding of purchasing, procurement and logistics. It will promote critical review and analysis of strategic value, procurement and supply chain management.
You will have an opportunity to develop project management and research skills to support your career and academic goals.
What will I study?
The School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science has a reputation for innovation in teaching and learning, where nearly all MSc modules are delivered through a combination of traditional face-to-face teaching and backup tutorials, using the University's StudyNet web-based facility. StudyNet allows students to access electronic teaching and learning resources and conduct electronic discussions with staff and other students.
A heavy emphasis is placed on theory and practice, and the School has a policy of using industrial standard software wherever possible. The School also operates an open access laboratory and computer policy to help you complete coursework and assignments.
Where will I study?
Learn in our brand-new School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science building, opening in 2024, where you’ll experience a range of experiential learning zones. You will have access to modelling, simulation and research labs, our Merlin Flight Simulator and automotive workshop (complete with electric vehicle facility), wind tunnel, welding bay and controls testing suite.
You will also benefit from a Success and Skills Support Unit, helping you build your employability and academic skills. Plus, you'll have access to industry mentors, who will provide you with pastoral support, vocational guidance and career progression opportunities.
The new building will also provide space to collaborate, with plenty of workshops, social and meeting spaces available. The building has been designed with the University’s net zero carbon target in mind, and forms part of our plan to replace or upgrade older sites that are energy inefficient.
