Please be aware that you do not need to apply for the Chancellor's International Scholarship as we automatically assess your course application form alongside your supporting documents. If you are successful we will email you to confirm the amount you have been awarded.

University Awarded Scholarships

Chancellor's International Scholarship
Available for applicants classified as international for fee purposes who have applied and been offered a place to study at the University on the UK campus in January 2025 for the first time. Amounts are variable from £500 up to £4000. No separate application is required, the scholarship will be awarded if applicants are eligible, being assessed against academic and English language criteria as well as personal statements and personal circumstances, and their tuition fee will be reduced accordingly.
Automatically assessed during the admissions process. You do not need to apply for this.
Terms, conditions and eligibility criteria
- Not available for any UG or PG School of Health & Social Work courses i.e:
- MSc Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging
- MSc Physiotherapy
- Not available for Research, HIC or and online courses.
- Only available on entry for the first time to the University - not in subsequent years.
- Only available for UG or PG taught applicants - not for preparatory programmes or research.
- Only available to applicants joining the University for the first time - not UH graduates or HIC graduates.
- These may be exceptionally awarded at the University’s discretion on any of the above courses.
- Only available for the January 2025 intake – applicants who fail to register cannot transfer the scholarship to subsequent intakes (unless agreed by the University).
- Applicants cannot qualify for any other scholarships or discounts including: Student Success Scholarship, Early Bird Discount, 20% Herts Graduate Discount, International Partner Discount , King’s Award Scholarship, King’s Award Clearing Scholarship or UG Tri Annual Scholarship alongside the Chancellor’s International Scholarship (unless exceptionally awarded at the University’s discretion).
- Applicants can qualify for the Full Payment Discount alongside the Chancellor’s International Scholarship if they pay their fees in full by 3 February 2025 for Semester B entry.
- Applicants need to have applied to the University and have been offered a place to be eligible for the scholarship.
- The scholarship will be administered as a deduction from tuition fees once applicants register at the University - not from their deposit amount. If they have paid their tuition fees in full it can be used for university accommodation (but not for the £150 accommodation deposit, as this is a refundable deposit).
- Applicants must: have been offered and accepted a place on a full-time award-bearing University of Hertfordshire programme and be paying the full cost of the tuition fee from their own resources directly to the University of Hertfordshire, and not discounted or sponsored for any part of the fee by the University of Hertfordshire or an organisation such as an employer, charitable body or government department. (Any contribution by an external organisation to the student's living costs, or a contribution from the student's family to the fee or living costs, does not count as sponsorship under this scheme.)
- Candidates will be required to meet all conditions of registration before the Scholarship is awarded.
- For students that withdraw (both student & university initiated); all discounts will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis in line with the fee related liability and all discounts or scholarships will be subject to the terms and conditions of the award.

UG Tri Annual Scholarship
Available for all UG applicants classified as international for fee purposes joining the University on the UK campus in January 2025 for the first time from all countries. This scholarship is a tuition fee deduction each year and available for each new year of study should the applicant successfully progress (but not for retakes and applicants re-joining after leaving the University part way through their studies).
Tuition fees will be discounted by £2,000 for each year of study (up to a total of £6,000 over the duration of a 3-year taught course or £8,000 for a 4-year taught course). The £2,000 scholarship is deducted each year from tuition fees - not all in one go from the first year of study. This scholarship is not available during work placement or study abroad years – only for on campus study. Available on all undergraduate courses apart from those in the School of Health & Social Work and nonstandard courses listed below. No application is required, the discount will be automatically awarded if applicants are eligible, and their tuition fee will be reduced accordingly.
Term, conditions and eligibility criteria
- Not available for any School of Health & Social Work UG courses.
- Not available for HIC or online courses.
- These may be exceptionally awarded at the University’s discretion on any of the above courses.
- Only available for the January 2025 intake – applicants who fail to register cannot transfer the discount to subsequent intakes unless agreed by the University.
- If applicants join at an advanced entry point (year 2 or year 3) the discount is still available at the rate above i.e. £2000 per year.
- Only available for UG taught applicants - not during work placement or study abroad years. Study must be at the University of Hertfordshire UK campus.
- Only available to applicants joining the University for the first time – not UH graduates or HIC graduates.
- Applicants cannot qualify for any other scholarships or discounts including: Student Success Scholarship, Chancellor’s International Scholarship, Early Bird Discount, 20% Herts Graduate Discount, International Partner Discount King’s Award Scholarship, or King’s Award Clearing Scholarship alongside UG Tri Annual Scholarship (unless exceptionally awarded at the University’s discretion).

University of Hertfordshire Graduate Scholarship - Herts Alumni 20% Discount
This scholarship is to the value of a 20% tuition fee reduction. It's awarded to University of Hertfordshire undergraduate students who return to study for any postgraduate taught course and research degree at the University of Hertfordshire campus in the UK.
No application is required, the scholarship will be automatically awarded if applicants are eligible, and their tuition fee will be reduced accordingly.
Terms, conditions and eligibility criteria
- The University of Hertfordshire Graduate Scholarship is available to self-funded University of Hertfordshire graduates (UK/EU and international) for their first full year of full-time or all years of part-time (UK/EU only) postgraduate or research degrees at the University.
- The Graduate Scholarship is available to students who have: graduated from a University of Hertfordshire undergraduate degree (either studied in the UK or at a partner institution overseas) and are starting a new postgraduate taught course at the University. Or graduated from a University of Hertfordshire undergraduate or postgraduate degree (either studied in the UK or at a partner institution overseas) and are starting a new research degree (PhD) course at the University. Or completed the Study Abroad programme with us from a different institution.
- The value of the Graduate Scholarship will be a fee deduction equivalent to 20% of the tuition fee due for the first year of full-time postgraduate study and (for UK/EU students only) 20% of the fee due for all years of part-time postgraduate or doctoral study. However in all instances, the Graduate Scholarship is not applicable to tuition fees due for repeating modules.
- The Graduate Scholarship is available for a range of postgraduate taught programmes offered by the University. These include Masters awards, those at Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma level (but excluding the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), the Certificate in Professional Studies, some vocational or professional practice certificates and short courses). The graduate scholarship is not available for any postgraduate courses funded via the undergraduate student SFE loans being; MSc Nursing (Adult, Child, Learning Disabilities & Mental Health), Master of Midwifery (Shortened), School Direct (unsalaried).
- If the eligibility criteria are met, this scholarship will be awarded to a University of Hertfordshire undergraduate for the first postgraduate or doctoral programme of study undertaken only. (Doctoral eligible only from 18/19 past study). If subsequent postgraduate or doctoral programmes are undertaken they will be charged at full price.
- Graduates must: have been offered and accepted a place on a full-time or part-time (UK/EU only) award-bearing University of Hertfordshire programme and be paying the full cost of the tuition fee from their own resources directly to the University of Hertfordshire, and not discounted or sponsored for any part of the fee by the University of Hertfordshire or an organisation such as an employer, charitable body or government department. (Any contribution by an external organisation to the student's living costs, or a contribution from the student's family to the fee or living costs, does not count as sponsorship under this scheme.)
- Applicants cannot qualify for any other scholarships including: Student Success Scholarship, International Chancellor’s Scholarship, Early Bird Discount, 20% Tri Annual Scholarship, , King’s Award Scholarship, King’s Award Clearing Scholarship or International Partner Discount alongside the Herts Graduate Scholarship (unless exceptionally awarded at the University’s discretion).
- International Students who are successfully awarded the Herts Graduate Scholarship are still eligible for the Full Payment Discount fee discount if they pay their tuition fees in full by 3 February 2025 for Semester B entry.
- Candidates will be required to meet all conditions of registration before the Scholarship is awarded.
- For students that withdraw (both student & university initiated); all discounts will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis in line with the fee related liability and all discounts or scholarships will be subject to the terms and conditions of the award.

International Partner Discount
Available for applicants classified as international for fee purposes who have applied and been offered a place to study at the University on the UK campus in January 2025 for the first time and are joining us from our overseas partners where they have been studying on a UH degree programme or at one of the partners listed below. Only available for UG level study. Any applicants joining for PG level study after completing a UH degree will be eligible for graduate scholarship (further details in next section). Amount is £2000 discount off tuition fees for the first year the applicants join only – not in subsequent years. No application is required, the discount will be automatically awarded if applicants are eligible, and their tuition fee will be reduced accordingly.

Study Abroad - 20% Discount
Students who have completed an exchange programme at the University of Hertfordshire may be entitled to a 20% tuition fee discount on selected postgraduate taught programmes.
This scholarship is to the value of a 20% tuition fee reduction.

Sports Scholarships
The University of Hertfordshire has an excellent Sport Scholarship Scheme created to provide support for talented athletes studying at the University. Each application is considered individually, and awards will vary between athletes with priority being given to BUCS sports.
Awards can include a range of support services and benefits for student-athletes:
- gym membership at The Sport Village and The Oval campus gyms
- strength and conditioning from industry leading coaches at Performance Herts
- athlete education workshops covering topics such as nutrition, sport psychology, anti-doping, etc
- BUCS competition expenses
- University of Hertfordshire branded teamwear
- academic flexibility for dual-career athletes (around national training camps and competition)
- lifestyle support from a TALS qualified practitioner to help with an athlete’s development and ability to balance sport alongside degree studies
- financial Sport Scholarship Award (these expense payments contribute towards training, competition and living costs).
Awarded to: athletes representing their sport at a regional or national level or who have achieved a high level of recognition in their sport can be considered for a the Sport Scholarship Scheme.

Full payment discount
If you are in a position to pay your first years tuition fee in full by a set date during registration, you can get a full payment discount. For the 2024/25 academic year this is a £1,000 discount.

King’s Award Scholarship (£2000)
Available for all taught postgraduate applicants classified as international for fee purposes joining the University campus in the UK in January 2025 for the first time from all markets.
This scholarship is a one-off payment for first-time applicants joining the University and not available for subsequent years of study. It is available for all applicants as a celebration of the University being granted the King’s Award in May 2024.
To qualify for the £2,000 King’s Award Scholarship, applicants must have paid their full tuition fee deposit of £5,000 and it needs to be received by the University by 30 November 2024. Available on all postgraduate taught courses apart from those in the School of Health & Social Work and nonstandard courses listed below.

The process of selecting Chevening Scholars takes a minimum of eight months from the application deadline to when scholars are conditionally selected for an award.

Gordon Memorial College Trust Fund
The Gordon Memorial College Trust Fund was established in 1899 by public subscription to honour the name of General Charles George Gordon of the British army, who was killed during the Mahdi's uprising in 1885. Gordon Memorial College, an educational institution in Sudan, was built between 1899 and 1902 as part of Lord Kitchener's wide-ranging educational reforms, and also named in honour of Gordon. In 1924, the college was merged with the new Khartoum University, as was the Kitchener School of Medicine.
The funds of the Gordon Memorial College Trust Fund are held in Trust and administered by a group of Trustees and an Executive Committee. The purpose of the Fund is to promote educational development in South Sudan and Sudan. Grants are available for educational projects and activities in South Sudan and Sudan and for South Sudanese and Sudanese nationals studying for a postgraduate course in the UK who intend to return to South Sudan or Sudan at the end of their studies.

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies, in order to develop effective scholars and leaders and to prepare them for employment, primarily within the AKDN. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant : 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master's level courses but is willing to consider applications for PhD programmes, only in the case of outstanding students who are highly recommended for doctoral studies by their professors and who need a PhD for the fulfilment of their career objectives (academic or research oriented).
The Foundation accepts applications from nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique. In France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada, applications are accepted from those who are originally from one of the above developing countries, are interested in development-related studies and who have no other means of financing their education.

Qalaa Foundation
The Qalaa Holdings Scholarship Foundation was created in 2007, out of a strong will to contribute to national development through creating high calibre professionals to help enhance Egypt’s growth in all sectors. The Foundation is funded by an endowment from Qalaa Holdings to grant academic scholarships for talented and promising young Egyptian men and women to pursue master degrees abroad in all fields of study.

Goa Education Trust scholarships
This scholarship is for pursuing a Masters Programme in any UK universities and is offered to selected Indian students.
The British Council collaboratively formed the Goa Education Trust with the Dempo and the Fomento Group.
It provides opportunities to pursue higher education in UK Universities in various disciplines including Journalism, Education, Ancient History and Law.

Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation loan scholarships
The Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, under its postgraduate scholarship Programme, offers Indian students with consistently high academic record an interest-free loan scholarship for post-graduation. The PG scholarship amount, extending up to a maximum of Rs. 20 lakhs, is awarded on the basis of the Foundation’s assessment of prospective candidates.
The Foundation award its postgraduate scholarship to students who are wish to pursue their studies in the fields of Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Law, Architecture and Management at prestigious Indian and international universities.
All applications will be screened for shortlisting. Only shortlisted candidates will be informed between the months of April-May. It is mandatory for all the shortlisted candidates to attend a personal interview in Mumbai in the month of June. The interview is the basis for final selection.

ETS India
ETS India are offering a UK-India TOEFL Scholarship in association with the National Indian Student and Alumni Union (NISAU).
The UK-India TOEFL Scholarship aims to support talented Indian students financially in their pursuit of higher education in the UK.
In order to apply, students will need to have an offer letter from a UK University and have achieved at least 75 out of 120 on their TOEFL iBT test. The deadline for students to apply is 15th July 2024

TUK-TAM Foundation
The Tou-Tam Scholarship Fund "Go, Learn and Return" supports motivated Bulgarians to continue their studies at a foreign university.
In the first edition in 2016, three scholarships were awarded for Master's degree at a total amount of BGN 11,000, and in 2017 we awarded four scholarships with a total of 32,000 leva. In 2018 the third edition of the Fund will be held, in which they will award three new scholarships - each amounting to BGN 10,000 - through a competition.

The Entente Cordiale scholarships are prestigious awards that fund French students who wish to study in the UK, and British students who wish to study in France for one year or postgraduate level. The British Council award a range of scholarships in different disciplines, which gives the scheme a unique diversity. Entente Cordiale alumni work across all sectors of professional activity from business and industry to the arts, research, government and civil society.

SOCAR Scholarships
Since the year of 2006, SOCAR has been financing from its own funds studies of young and talented youth at leading universities of foreign countries.
SOCAR has been closely cooperating with various universities of the world to arrange for students to study abroad within the Scholarship Program. Currently, number of graduates and students of SOCAR’s Study Abroad Scholarship Program is 122. Of them, 53 students in the UK, 22 students in Germany, 15 students in France, 12 students in US, six students in Turkey, three students in Norway, by two students in Holland and Canada, by one student in Austria, Sweden, Russia and Malta are studying or have completed their studies.

Becas Chile (CONICYT)
Becas Chile is the Chilean government’s main funding scheme to support Chileans to study at postgraduate level overseas, with the aim of contributing to Chile’s innovation and competitiveness. It covers the full international tuition fee, a stipend for living expenses, return flights, stipend for books, health insurance, settling and returning allowance and, if needed, up to one year of language study in Chile if necessary. You can apply for funding to study a masters or PhD course. The scholarship is for study in any subject except LLM and MBA degrees.
You will need an unconditional offer from the University of Hertfordshire, or an offer conditional on English language, before you apply to Becas Chile for your scholarship.

CONACYT Scholarships
CONACYT (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología) offers full scholarships to Mexican students wishing to study on postgraduate programmes in a broad range of subject areas. You can apply for a CONACYT scholarship for most subjects except arts and business. You will not have to pay the money back to CONACYT, however you will be required to return to work in Mexico after your period of study in the UK.
You will need to have an offer to study at the University of Hertfordshire (or another UK university that has an agreement with CONACYT) before you can apply for a CONACYT scholarship.
