A little bit about me

My name is Ayesha. I am doing my second year of BEng Mechanical Engineering. I could say I always knew I wanted to study something related to cars. But I think people can't just look at me and guess how much I love cars. I did my A levels in Physics, Mathematics, and Further Pure Mathematics. Now, you know how much I love maths, and I'm never tired of doing maths. I wanted to be an engineer and do something challenging from childhood. I did my research during my GCE and decided to study mechanical engineering (the broadest engineering subject). This subject gives you a chance to explore design, develop, build, test, research, and manufacture equipment, machines, aircraft, other vehicles, and so on. After doing my bachelor's in this subject, I can major in automotive, motorsports, or aeronautical engineering.

With my study, I also wanted to have a good university life, that's why I chose the University of Hertfordshire. A University with a beautiful campus, full of green with all modern facilities. The degree is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineering. I did not manage to make friends when I first came to the university and used to find myself alone as all my first-year classes were online due to the pandemic. My second year turned out to be lucky for me as I started to work in the university as a student guide, managed to make new friends, exploring the whole campus, gained confidence. Slowly, the university started giving homely feelings. The Oval (area of the MUGA, student accommodation, gym) is so beautiful that you will not feel like going home. It is nice to stand there watch people playing. Also, everyone can participate in many free sports activities. I am learning roller skating, which is free for all students and sometimes I play archery, tennis, badminton. There are so many societies you can join. You can join engineering societies even if you are not an engineering student and participate in the activities and industrial tours.

Later, I joined as a student ambassador and it feels good to work inside the university. For my subject, I must say I have alot of study pressure. I love all my lectures, they are helpful and the modules are interesting too. I learned building things, how to CAD software and 3D printing, and many other things. Also, you can be a member of the formula student UH team if you are studying Mechanical Engineering.

Overall I am enjoying my life at UH. I am excited to spend my upcoming days at this university. And I am happy that soon I am going to be a mechanical engineer. I wish you luck and if you have any questions about anything, I will do my best to answer them. Be yourself and explore the world.
