Veronique Mistiaen, award-winning journalist and Pulitzer Prize nominee. “Behind ‘Freedom is not easy’ – a reporter’s notebook.” Freedom is not easy is an exhibition of 12 portraits of refugees, made in the place where they first felt free or safe in the UK. The images, shot by renowned photographer Caroline Irby are accompanied by interviews conducted by Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Veronique Mistiaen. In this lecture, Veronique will talk about her role in the project and the type of journalism that she specialises in. Veronique Mistiaen has worked as an editor, foreign correspondent and reporter for national and international media outlets over the past 25 years. Her work has appeared in The Guardian, The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Economist, Newsweek, BBC News, Le Monde, El Pais, the Huffington Post, Thomson Reuters, the Chicago Tribune and the San Francisco Chronicle, among other publications.
