Research collaborations and industrial partnerships

The Centre collaborates with universities and research users nationally and internationally, through funded research projects particularly from UKRI and the EU. Funding from Innovate UK (including KTPs) and government organisations have facilitated partnerships with a broad range of industry partners, from large multinational companies to SMEs.

FP7 MAAT - Multibody Advanced Airship for Transport	Completed in 2015, ENESD collaborated with the Universities of Modena (Italy), Beira (Portugal), Southern Federal University of Russia, Lincoln, Bologna (Italy), the Polytechnic of Torino and VU Brussels to explore the design of a new radical kind of airship that remains permanently aloft, with a vertical take-off/landing shuttle for ground access.
FP6 ACCORDANCE	Completed in 2014, CIS worked with Deutsche Telecom, Telefonica, Bell Labs Germany, UPC (Spain), AIT (Greece) and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany) to demonstrate end-to-end transmission over optical and wireless networks
H2020 OCTAVE - Objective control of talker verification	IS collaborated with Aalborg University, the University of East Finland, and industrial partners that included ATOS and Eurocom
FP7 ENVIGUARD - Biosensor technology for food safety	MMRG collaborated with the Alfred Wegener Institute (Germany), the University Polytechnic of Madrid (Spain), Istanbul University (Turkey) and aquaculture SMEs in Europe, including North Bay Shellfish Ltd and FAI Aquaculture Ltd in the UK
SatIP WiFi Hotspot	Funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), the project investigated multicasting of video over satellite and WiFi networks in collaboration with the satellite vendor Global Invacom and the BBC R&D
AT>IP WiFi Live Mobile TV	Funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), the project developed adaptive video transmission over satellite and WiFi in collaboration with BC R&D, Global Invacom, and also Canadian company Edgewater Wireless
Self-powering wireless circuit design	CIS in collaboration with Macquarie University and the University Technology Sydney, the project was funded by the Australia Research Council
5G and satellite networks	CIS is working in collaboration with the University of Luxemburg

EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Aerosol Science	Working with Bristol (lead), Bath, Cambridge, Imperial, Leeds and Manchester, MMRG alongside other research groups within the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science and the School of Life and Medical Sciences are involved in the training of ten out of a total of 80 researchers
H2020 DTA3 COFUND in Energy	Working with 14 other higher education institutes (including Coventry, Brighton, Nottingham Trent, Liverpool John Moores and the Open University), The Centre supervises the doctoral training of six researchers out of a total of 98
Antimicrobial filters for hospital air and water systems	MAST is working in collaboration with UCL and Great Ormond Street Hospital on a project funded by the EPSTC
Early detection of tree health pests and pathogens	MMRG is working with Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (NERC), the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (STFC), Forest Research, the James Hutton Institute and Oxford, Aberdeen, St Andrews, Exeter, Worcester and Greenwich on a project funded by the BBSRC
