Health and Social Work Research Conference
The School of Health and Social Work at the University of Hertfordshire is pleased to announce their forthcoming Health and Social Work Conference. A stimulating and broad range of oral papers and posters will be presented by research students registered on PhD and DHRes health related Doctorates within the University of Hertfordshire.
Call for papers
The call for abstracts, for an oral presentation and/or poster, is open to all HSK based post-graduate research students who are undertaking health and/or social work related research (whatever the programme and wherever it is being studied). Eligibility will also be extended to those who have completed a post-graduate research programme within the preceding 12 months.
In addition, all post-graduate research students within the School of Life and Medical Sciences [LMS] will be invited to submit an abstract for a poster (however, if an LMS student has an HSK supervisor, an abstract for an oral paper will be considered).
Eligibility
All registered students in the School of Health and Social Work are encouraged to submit for the conference annually, whatever stage their doctoral studies have reached. You may submit an abstract based on your literature review or research design/protocol for example, or on your study findings and implications. Papers may focus on empirical research, policy or practice, or be concerned with an underpinning theoretical framework. You are eligible to submit if you:
- are currently registered on the PhD or DHRes programme in the School of Health and Social Work.
- submitted your PhD or DHRes thesis in the School of Health and Social Work since the last conference in July 2018.
- in addition we invite abstracts for posters only from other students registered for a PhD or professional doctorate at the University of Hertfordshire or another University whose research has a health or social work focus.
Abstracts
We welcome abstracts for the following:
- Oral paper (20 minute oral presentations followed by 10 minute question and answer discussion)
- Posters (A1 size, portrait or landscape)
The Conference Committee invites abstracts that take a theoretically and methodologically sound approach of significance to the practice of health and social work.
Your abstract should demonstrate the following, as appropriate to the stage you have reached:
- a robust justification for the study
- a strong conceptual and theoretical framework
- a clear hypothesis or aims/objectives
- a thorough and critical literature review
- a clear research design appropriate to the subject under scrutiny
- a logical well-planned approach to the methodology and methods
- a statement about the ethical conduct of the study
- a clear section explaining the data collection phase
- a clear section presenting the results/findings
- a discussion of the relevance of the findings for policy and/or practice
