Microbiology and biotechnology

The Microbiology and Biotechnology Research Group is actively conducting research to:

• exploit the properties of bacteria to make useful products using fundamental biotechnology approaches
• study the virulence and epidemiology of pathogenic bacteria in vitro and in vivo
• evaluate novel antimicrobial agents activity against pathogenic bacteria and alternative approaches to treat infections
• multidisciplinary research into the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet

To date research project funding has included: Industry, DEFRA, EU, charities, overseas governments, research councils, the British Council and Commonwealth Commission.

The group has a large portfolio of current projects and is always looking to broaden its research base, form new collaborative networks or to take on new projects.

The University of Hertfordshire is ideally located in the heart of the UK’s biotech and pharmaceutical triangle between London and Cambridge which facilitates extensive industrial collaboration.
