Enterprise and Business Development

Business Development delivers a range of services which support business growth and innovation in Hertfordshire and the wider region. Businesses we support range from public sector (NHS, Local Authorities, Schools), large companies, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), charities, social enterprises and start-ups and entrepreneurs.

Innovation

We facilitate access to the University’s equipment and facilities (labs and venues) and coordinate bids for consultancy, contract research, collaborative research and knowledge exchange, most of which we seek to secure public co-funding. In addition, we help to commercialise the University’s intellectual property and support spin-out business formation and investment.

Business growth

We support the development and delivery of Apprenticeships and skills training through continuing professional development and short courses.

Start-ups and entrepreneurs

We facilitate access to the all-campus incubator and provide a community of practice to support their early business journeys.

Our key role is to support our Academic Schools and colleagues to work with businesses, to ensure that the University has impact on commerce and society and to help improve the student experience by our academics actively engaging with the external community. As a Business Development member of staff you will encounter a wide variety of exciting and interesting experiences working with our talented academic colleagues and business clients; if you enjoy problem solving, building lasting relationships and having an impact then Business Development is for you.

Careers and Employment work with colleagues across the University to help students and alumni develop the employability skills they need to achieve their career aspirations. We work to source additional work experience and graduate employment opportunities for our students and alumni (for up to three years after graduation).

Our International Office manages extensive student recruitment strategies that run across multiple markets globally to ensure a strong pipeline of international students join the University. With ever-expanding specially selected offices and agencies around the world, the University’s global network is continuously growing to increase market reach and understanding.

The International Office also create and develop partnerships with key educational organisations across the world to enhance our reputation and our expertise, bringing education opportunities to those who cannot travel to the UK.
