The HR Compliance Team is dedicated to supporting managers and staff to act within employment and right to work regulations; this includes working with managers and teams for better understanding of employment requirements, the sponsorship of international staff and visitors for work visas and the ensuring any criminal record checks meet the Disclosure and Barring Service requirements. Our remit also includes project work, particularly in areas covered by the Equality requirements.

We are responsible for checking and processing all contractual changes for salaried staff including issuing contractual letters, amending any employment details, updating and maintaining computerised and manual staff records, progressing renewal visa/work permit checks and assisting with promotions, restructures and annual leave. We are usually the first point of contact for staff with any queries.

We are the first point of call for any queries relating to visiting lecturers or casual staff. We oversee the employment life cycle form start to finish, including recruitment, pre-employment checks, changes to contracts and the leaver process.

The HR Information System Team maintain and develop the University’s HR System, liaising with the software suppliers Core HR, creating a detailed development roadmap, managing the University’s staff portal, and supporting managers and superusers who use the product.

We also provide data for internal reporting including a suite of reports for HR and senior managers, a monthly People Management Report and annual reports. We also provide external reports for statutory legislative requirements to HESA, UCEA and OFS Remuneration Surveys, Gender Pay, etc. as well as submissions to Athena Swan and Race Equality Charter Mark. Additionally, the team respond to any HR related Freedom of Information Requests.

The Learning and Organisation Development (L&OD) team provides staff and organisational development initiatives to ensure delivery of the University’s HR People Plan. The team of L&OD Business Partners and Facilitators work with key stakeholders to identify learning, organisational design and developmental requirements and deliver effective solutions, bespoke or generic, to meet their needs.

As well as providing a scheduled programme of workshops covering leadership and management, personal skills and induction, we support other areas across the University, delivering their development (Health and Safety or Equality, Diversity and Inclusion). We lead on many strategic people projects and are a key member of many university advisory groups.

The Recruitment Salaried team support the University with the recruitment of all permanent and fixed term salaried staff. It is our responsibility to ensure the organisation provides a fair and transparent recruitment process and we work closely with recruitment managers to ensure that the best candidates are recruited into our vacancies.
