What is the Big Draw?

The Campaign for Drawing has one aim: to get everyone drawing!

Why? Drawing helps us to think, invent and communicate - regardless of age and ability.

The Big Draw

Each year October is Big Draw month. This annual initiative, the Campaign's flagship programme, aims to bring communities together in creative ways. It is the largest drawing festival in the world.

More than 1000 events happen in over 25 countries and 400,000 people take part throughout the autumn in many different venues including, national galleries, museums, heritage sites, nursery schools and village halls.

Big Draw activities show how drawing can be used to connect visitors with our cultural heritage, natural or built environment – and each other.

Schools often invite the wider community to share the pleasures of learning through drawing and each year the School of Education organises this event for the University of Hertfordshire. We invite local Primary Schools into the university to participate in workshops with our students and live performances.

In 2017, incorporating the theme of Living Lines, we were pleased to host Upswing to perform in front of over 600 Primary school children in the Weston Auditorium.
