Autumn 2024 - Being creative with physical computing

The 'Being creative with physical computing' programme includes the loan of a class set of Crumble physical computing devices and related components.

This exciting hands-on programme for key stage 2 teachers and curriculum leaders will comprise a 1-day workshop at our De Havilland campus, plus twilight support sessions, free kit loan and a celebration/round-up session. Combining primary computing, primary science and design and technology, this programme will remove barriers to getting physical computing off the ground for those who have not yet started and help others to develop their physical computing practice and curriculum. The programme will increase teacher confidence.

This structured professional development programme aims to improve teachers’ confidence, knowledge and practice in computing, science and design and technology. Teachers will be supported to plan and teach a culturally relevant project that will include pupils building a model and then to programme it with moving parts and flashing lights. Pupils will apply their computing, design and technology, scientific and mathematical skills as well as having the opportunity to work collaboratively and creatively.

Each school taking part in the project is entitled to borrow a class box (16 sets of kit) of Crumble physical computing device, USB cable, battery pack, AA batteries, crocodile clips, LEDs, motors, wheels and sparkles.
