Midwives play an important role in preparing women for the delivery of new life and their presence is vital during all stages of pregnancy, labour and the early postnatal period.
Midwives hold a unique position in the healthcare professions, providing an invaluable service caring for women and their babies.

Undergraduate
The pre-registration courses for midwives provide a stepping stone from diploma level to first degree level or from first degree level to Master's degree level.
- BSc (Hons) Midwifery 3 year, direct entrant route
- BSc (Hons) Midwifery Shortened 86 weeks, for adult branch nurses to train as midwives

Facilities
We have outstanding facilities for midwifery students including a delivery suite and birthing room with pool.
Practice placements
Every year of the programme, students undertake placements in midwifery departments, as we believe that the best way to develop clinical skills and knowledge is by hands-on experience, gained by working in our partner practice placement hospitals.
We have a dedicated team that manages and supports practice placements. The team includes University lecturers and placement educators who work together and meet regularly to ensure that your clinical practice experience is of the highest quality.
