Nursing courses

The School of Health and Social Work has a long-established reputation as a centre for excellence for healthcare education.

In the field of Nursing we offer a variety of courses that cover the following areas:

Pre-Registration

Get started at Herts with your career in nursing. The profession's contribution to health care is expanding, providing an increasing range of career opportunities for the graduate nurse.

Postgraduate/Post-Registration

If you are a qualified nurse or other health professional looking to extend your educational qualifications and enhance your skills, you can choose from a wide range of courses from stand-alone modules to Master's degrees.

Whatever post-registration course you choose it will challenge you academically and provide you with a solid foundation in evidence-based practice. The key benefit of the post-registration courses is that you can still develop your skills and knowledge while continuing to work and earn.

Who are they for?

We have designed post-registration nursing courses both for those who have studied at diploma level or who haven't studied at all for some time.

They are suitable for a variety of qualified nurses and health professionals such as:

  • Qualified nurses - adult, child, learning disability and mental health branch.
  • Community and public health qualified nurses working in community settings.
  • Nursing and specialist community public health mentors.

Facilities

We have impressive facilities for nursing students including three fully stocked wards - two adult nursing wards and one child nursing ward with a range of high and low fidelity manikins.

Practice placements

Every year of the programme, students undertake placements in nursing departments, as we believe that the best way to develop clinical skills and knowledge is by hands-on experience, gained by working in our partner practice placement hospitals.

We have a dedicated team that manages and supports practice placements. The team includes University lecturers and placement educators who work together and meet regularly to ensure that your clinical practice experience is of the highest quality.
