Dean's Welcome
There’s something very special about Hertfordshire Law School and we are lucky to have a great academic and student community. As Dean of School, I would like to introduce you to our programmes of study and our unique range of co-curricular activities which will give you a wealth of professional skills. Whether you see yourself studying Law or Criminology, and ultimately working as a barrister, solicitor or working in the police service, the security services, as a youth worker or utilising your skills in policy construction, our courses are designed to give you the best possible career advantage.
You will learn with us via online lectures, through tutorials, workshops and weekly surgeries with our experienced academics, who provide an excellent teaching and learning environment. Several of them have been awarded the accolade of Tutor of The Year in the Vice Chancellor’s Awards, and many more are Fellows and Senior Fellows of the HigherEducation Academy. You will be taught by leading researchers on your chosen course,who offer research-led teaching and an innovative teaching style, with a passion to help you succeed in your degree. Our curriculum is enriched with guest lectures, masterclasses, field trips, and opportunities to spend time studying abroad during your degree. We offer a wide range of co-curricular activities of any law school, a range of placements and work experience opportunities, and a careers programme tailored to your personal ambitions from day one of your studies.
We want you to aim high, and this is reflected in our high graduate employability rate. Our dedicated programme leaders, pastoral support tutors and our office-hours policy will ensure that you will be thoroughly supported throughout your studies. Represent your university
You will have the opportunity to represent the School in both national and international competitions for mooting, trial advocacy, client interviewing and mediation.
Over the past decade, the School has earned an excellent track record in these competitions, regularly beating teams from both Oxbridge and Russell Group universities and winning national trophies. This is an invaluable experience to include on your curriculum vitae.
In April 2018, Hertfordshire Law School won their first ever international mooting competition, after securing a win at the Thomas A. Finlay Inter-Varsity Moot Competition at University College Dublin.
