About

We are proud to support the resident orchestra of the University of Hertfordshire: de Havilland Philharmonic. Formed in 1969 and celebrating their 55th Anniversary, the Orchestra brings together over 80 classical musicians under the leadership of their dynamic conductor, Robin Browning.

Every year the orchestra delivers a repertoire of 7 concerts, giving acclaimed performances of a wide musical repertoire, engaging renowned soloists, and taking our audiences on a journey through some of the best-loved classical masterpieces.

Every concert season, we also invite the award-winning children’s illustrator and author James Mayhew to take to the stage with de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra, painting live and storytelling as the orchestra plays. Mayhew performs a meticulously choreographed show in perfect synchronicity with the music – his paintings projected onto a big screen for all to enjoy.

de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra also collaborates with music students from the University’s School of Creative Arts, providing invaluable real-life experiences for the budding composers studying for degrees in music composition and technology.
